It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our co-founder and managing partner, Thomas G. Sampson, Sr., who passed away on July 3, 2025.

Tom was more than the leader of our firm—he was a cornerstone of the Atlanta legal community. A proud graduate of Morehouse College, and later the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law, Tom returned to Atlanta in 1971 to begin a legal journey that would span over 50 years. He helped establish what would become Thomas Kennedy Sampson & Tompkins LLP, building a practice known for excellence, integrity, and advocacy.

First African American inducted into the Georgia Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates
Listed in The Best Lawyers in America annually since 1993
Charter Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America
Listed as a Georgia Super Lawyer every year of that list’s existence
Throughout his career, Tom served with distinction in legal, governmental, and civic roles, mentoring generations of lawyers and advancing the principles of justice and equity.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at:
